Introducing The Church of Christ

The church of Christ is not Catholic, Protestant, nor Jewish in nature. Neither is it nondenominational in the typical sense of that word. Rather, the church of Christ is undemoninational. We do not seek to be part of the religious world that partitions itself off in man-made division, nor do we wish to simply absorb people from various religions by offering generic doctrine, social programs, and hierarchical leadership. Instead, we seek to abandon all of the barriers to unity that exist by appeals to men and their creeds and appeal only to the Bible for all matters of doctrine and practice, trusting in it as the inspired source of all that pertains to life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3).

Our Mission Statement

A CONGREGATION DOES NOT GROW BY ACCIDENT, WHETHER SPIRITUALLY OR NUMERICALLY. NEITHER DOES A CONGREGATION PLEASE GOD JUST BY EXISTING. IT IS THE FERVENT DESIRE OF THE ELDERS FOR THE CONGREGATION AT GRANBURY STREET TO GROW, RECOGNIZING THAT THIS REQUIRES DETERMINATION, COMMITMENT, AND EFFORT.

IN ORDER TO HAVE A BRIGHT FUTURE, WE MUST PLAN FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE. WITH THIS IN MIND, THE ITEMS LISTED BELOW PRESENT A BIBLICAL OVERVIEW OF GOD’S EXPECTATIONS FOR HIS PEOPLE. THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT NONE OF THESE PRESENTLY EXIST, BUT WE MUST SEEK EVER TO GROW INTO THE FULLNESS OF WHAT THE SCRIPTURES REVEAL A CONGREGATION OF GOD’S PEOPLE SHOULD BE. THEREFORE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH GOD’S WORD, MAY ALL OF US AT THE GRANBURY STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST DETERMINE TO:

  • DEVELOP A LIFESTYLE OF EVANGELISM IN THE COMMUNITY. (MK. 16:15)
  • EXHIBIT AN ONGOING GROWTH IN BIBLICAL KNOWLEDGE. (1 PET. 2:2)
  • SHOW A DEEP LOVE AND CARE ABOUT SOULS. (MT. 16:26)
  • BE KNOWN FOR OUR LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER — IN THE AREA AND IN THE COMMUNITY. (JN. 13:34-35)
  • BE KNOWN AS PEOPLE THAT LOVE THE SINNER BUT HATE THE SIN AND ACT ACCORDINGLY. (MT. 11:19; HEB. 1:9A; ACTS 18:24-28)
  • NURTURE A STRONG, UNITED YOUTH GROUP WHO ARE SPIRITUALLY MINDED. (2 TIM. 3:14-15)
  • GROW THE CONGREGATION BOTH SPIRITUALLY AND NUMERICALLY. (1 COR. 3:6)
  • DEVELOP BOTH INTEREST AND SKILLS WITHIN THE CONGREGATION SO THAT MORE PEOPLE CAN AND WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE WORK AND WORSHIP OF THE CHURCH. (1 COR. 15:58; JN. 4:24)
  • CONSISTENTLY DEMONSTRATE OUR LOVE FOR TRUTH NOT ONLY IN THEORY BUT ALSO IN PRACTICE. (JN. 17:17; COL. 3:17)
  • CONSISTENTLY PRIORITIZE OUR LIVES BEGINNING WITH SPIRITUAL THINGS. (MT. 6:33; COL. 3:1-2)

WE REALIZE THAT IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO ACKNOWLEDGE WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY. WE ALSO REALIZE THAT SETTING GOALS IS NOT ENOUGH. WE MUST THEREFORE COMMIT OURSELVES NOT ONLY TO BELIEVING THESE THINGS BUT ALSO TO TRAINING FOR GREATER SERVICE IN THE KINGDOM IN EACH OF THESE AREAS SO THAT THEY MIGHT BECOME A REALITY.

IN ORDER TO PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE OF THIS CONGREGATION, THE ELDERS ENVISION TRAINING CLASSES OR WORKSHOPS TO ADDRESS VARIOUS ASPECTS OF CONGREGATIONAL ACTIVITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES — FROM SINGING AND SONG LEADING TO VISITATION, FROM THE BIBLE CLASS PROGRAM TO THE LEADERSHIP, FROM PERSONAL EVANGELISM TO DELIVERING DEVOTIONALS.

EVERY MEMBER OF GRANBURY STREET CAN BE PART OF A BRIGHT FUTURE. BUT WE MUST BEGIN BY LOVING THIS CONGREGATION ENOUGH TO WORK AND TO SACRIFICE FOR THAT FUTURE.
